Three worked studio routines for a small, growing and mixed-format teaching week

Explore teaching resources

These are worked examples of studio routines. Adapt the timing to your teaching load; they are not targets or claims about productivity.

Small studio: six weekly learners

Monday, 15 minutes: check the week’s calendar and open each current goal.
After each lesson, two minutes: record attendance and one next step.
Friday, 15 minutes: review unresolved invitations, messages and invoice questions.

A learner working on a five-note phrase gets one note: “Keep the pulse through the turn.” The teacher avoids rewriting the whole lesson.

Growing studio: twenty learners

Before each teaching block: review only the students in that block.
Between lessons: capture a short observation and flag anything requiring a longer review.
Two scheduled admin sessions: resolve billing and scheduling exceptions in batches.

The teacher does not publish an unchecked AI draft to stay on schedule. A note needing musical corrections waits for review.

Mixed-format studio: online and in-person

Day before: confirm which lessons need classroom setup and which need physical materials.
Before online teaching: check camera, sound and any MIDI connection.
After either format: use the same goal, note and follow-up routine.

A student can continue the same practice task after an online or in-person lesson. The format changes; the learning thread stays recognisable.

All three routines close the record, prepare the next lesson and handle exceptions. Choose the smallest routine that makes those three jobs reliable.
