A weekly practice plan is easier to use when its activities serve one recognisable goal. Begin with the sound you want the learner to produce.
Choose the goal
For the five-note study, choose “keep the pulse through the turn in bar 2”. Check that the learner can recognise the difference between a continuous phrase and a hesitant one.
Set a manageable task
Give the passage, action and listening cue. “Count aloud, play bars 1–2 slowly, then listen for the same beat through the join.” Attach or share the correct resource.
Add a short related activity only when it helps. A rhythm exercise might support the pulse work; an unrelated page of theory could dilute the purpose.
Find it as a learner
In the student Practice Room, the learner chooses today’s work from available assignments or their own ideas. Help them select a realistic session rather than treating every open assignment as compulsory for every sitting.
Start the session, attempt the chosen work and review what actually happened. Saving a session records that sitting; formal assignment completion or submission can be a separate action.
Review together
Ask what made starting easy or difficult. Use time and completion information to guide the conversation, then listen to the phrase. A short focused session can be useful even if it produces no dramatic score or streak.
