How will questions and home practice be supported?
Use this question deck for a first conversation with a prospective learner. Choose the questions that fit; it should feel like a conversation, not an interview.
Musical direction
- What music do you enjoy listening to?
- What would you love to play, sing or understand?
- Have you learned before, formally or informally?
Starting experience
- What already feels comfortable?
- What has been confusing or frustrating?
- Would you like to hear a short example of how we might work on that?
Practical fit
- What instrument or practice space can you use?
- What lesson format and times are realistic?
- What might a manageable practice session look like in your week?
Learning relationship
- How do you prefer to ask questions when something is unclear?
- For a child, how might an adult support starting practice?
- What would make the first few lessons feel worthwhile?
Worked response
A learner says, “I want to play a film melody, but reading is slow.” Offer a small first goal: identify the opening pattern and play it with a steady pulse.
Explain your actual teaching arrangements before either person commits. Do not promise a grade, performance standard or speed of progress from a short conversation.
