Connect the goal to musical evidence
- 01
Steady pulse
Count across the bar line → the beat continues.
- 02
Even tone
Play four notes → no unintended note dominates.
- 03
Deliberate start
Prepare and count in → begin once.
- 04
Connected phrase
Choose a destination → shape towards it.
Choose a goal card, agree what it sounds like and pair it with a short task.
| Goal card | Musical evidence | A starting task |
|---|---|---|
| Steady pulse | Beat continues through a join | Count and tap across the bar line |
| Even tone | No unintended note dominates | Play four notes slowly and compare |
| Deliberate start | Learner prepares and begins once | Count in before one short attempt |
| Clear rhythm | Long and short values remain distinct | Speak the rhythm on one pitch |
| Connected phrase | Notes lead towards a destination | Choose a high point and shape towards it |
| Controlled ending | Final sound matches the intention | Compare two different endings |
| Fluent reading | Learner follows a familiar pattern | Name the opening note and trace direction |
| Listening independence | Learner identifies a change | Compare two attempts and explain one difference |
Use with a learner
Teacher and learner each choose a card. If they differ, play a short example and discuss which goal should come first. Agree one success cue in words both understand.
Review
Ask for the evidence before changing a status. “I completed the task” and “the phrase is secure” are related but different statements.
These cards are musical prompts, not universal grading criteria.
